Block Drawing, No. 2
Charcoal on paper
19 x 24 inches
Block Drawing, No. 2 continues the series of geometric, minimalist charcoal drawings with a deliberate investigation of form, texture and weight. This iteration modifies key variables from the first work: two white triangular cut-ins (reduced from three) and the charcoal surface adopts a rougher, granular texture, applied evenly to maintain cohesion. The piece continues the exploration of compositional tension and equilibrium, creating points of compression, weight and relief by balancing the stark contrast of light and dark while carefully controlling the medium. The drawing reflects a careful negotiation between formal constraint and subtle experimentation, advancing the series’ ongoing inquiry into visual balance.
